Enhancing Ketosis Through Ketogenic Nutrition

Ketogenic nutrition is the single best way to enhance ketosis while adhering to any keto diet. The eating plan for a keto diet focuses on consuming just the necessary amount of protein, very few carbohydrates, and a substantial amount of fats.

This is because the ultimate goal of a keto diet is to result in the body receiving more calories from fats than from carbohydrates. Drastically reducing the number of carbohydrates put into your body will induce a metabolic state called dietary ketosis. At this point, fat, from both your diet and stored within your body, is burned for energy instead of carbohydrates.

Enhancing ketosis encourages the body to deplete its sugar reserves and ultimately triggers the body to break down fat for energy usage. Depending on the person, keeping carbohydrate intake below 50 grams, or ideally, closer to 20 grams per day, is the level where most clinical dietitians agree that ketosis occurs and weight loss will begin.

While counting carbs may not be the easiest task for most people, a simple approach to understanding dietary ketosis can help many people adhere to a keto diet and enhance the ketosis process. Keto-friendly meals include unprocessed meats that are low in carbohydrates, emphasizing organic and grass-fed varieties. However, it is essential to keep in mind that a keto diet is higher in fat, not in protein, so small measured amounts of meat are best for enhancing ketosis. One of the golden rules of a keto diet is always to read the label and look for proper portion sizes that will contain less than five percent Carbohydrates.

Enhancing ketosis can often be accomplished by combining your proteins with natural fats. Eggs are the perfect example. As part of a keto diet, eggs can be scrambled, fried in butter, or used to make creamy sauces such as hollandaise, garlic butter, or Bernaise. Feel free to eat the eggs any way you like but remember to keep in mind that they pack a high amount of cholesterol.

Remember, to enhance ketosis, the lion’s share of your calories should come from natural fats like those found in eggs, meats, and fish. The fat allowed in keto diets will not only add tons of flavor to your dishes it will also help you feel fuller and thus help with portion control. Fat is your friend if you want to be successful in losing weight on a keto diet. So if you are planning on a half cup of berries for dessert, be sure to add a fair amount of full fat whipped cream on top for good measure.
