The history of Portland International Raceway dates back to the 1960s during the Second World War. The first race involved a motorcycle. Today, it is a playground for vintage and racing cars.

Does your classic car quality for the race?
The drivers must have years of driving experience and a clean driving record. Also, classic cars must be insured for hobby-related activities. Some policies are strict than others, so you should choose an insurance cover that suits you best.
The driver must adhere to the rules that keep up with the best practices. And must not be suspended from competition by any suctioning body.
If you intend to drive a GT or sports car, it must have been on sale before 1989. The limited-production sports and prototypes must not have been manufactured before 1972.
Under Columbia River Classic Rules, the formula cars must not have been in production before 1972. If you want to race a classic modified vehicle, it must observe the relevant production class -modified engine, chassis, or re-bodied.
Driver committee
It consists of experienced racers to review racing incidents. The committee must investigate any incidence or damage that can occur when racing. In addition to that, they will inspect the car with the help of the technical team.
Apart from that, they will check the contribution of each driver and determine the level of discipline.
Novice competition
Racers must fulfill some eligibility requirements before participating in a race. The driver committee will ensure they acquire the necessary experience before getting behind the wheel. And upon completing an incident-free race, the chief steward will sign off a form and return it to the driver.
Safety
All cars must have a fire extinguisher in the cockpit area. Also, the fuel cells are mandatory to all groups approved by SCCA and FIA. Thirdly, the cars must be fitted with roll bars. The sides must be welded to the front and rear.

The organizing team has a system that helps to detect faults and establish which driver was at fault. There’s even a minor penalty to ensure every driver conducts him or herself responsibly. Sometimes, the driver can be a victim of circumstance. For instance, the fluid can leak. The other category is aggressively driving, causing an injury to another car.
Drivers are responsible for their cars and are expected to report any incidences and should be in control of their cars at all times.
