With that being said, here a just a few reasons to make Puerto Rico your vacation destination this year, and doing it with Holidays Lounge.

A cool reason to visit Puerto Rico, at least from an American perspective, is that you don’t need to worry about bringing your passport, going through international customs, and having to pay with foreign currency and think about exchange rates. As Puerto Rico is a United States territory, citizens from American can visit at their leisure, just like travelling to Hawaii or Alaska. Being so close to the United States mainland (approximately three hours from Miami) means that you can visit an entirely different world in practically no time at all!

You’ll want to definitely visit San Juan, the capital of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

With a rich history and vibrant culture, it’s an experience that truly needs to be witnessed. The hub of economic activity and most important seaport means that you can get a glimpse at how this island runs, and what makes it such an important piece of the Caribbean. There are a lot of different tourist activities to check out, such as Ocean Park and Condado, but the main attraction is Old San Juan.

Giving you the opportunity to step back in time, Old San Juan can make you feel like you’re back in colonial Puerto Rico.

With its fascinating colonial architecture, and narrow cobblestone streets, it’s a great place to explore. Massive ancient forts and defense walls are also found here, such as El Morro, which show the battle scars of protecting the island for hundreds of years. You’ll notice the blue coloring of the cobblestone streets and some of the buildings in the area; this isn’t by design. They are covered by adoquine, a blue stone created by the furnaces on ships, such as the ones the Spanish used when they brought ships over to Puerto Rico. The adoquine got all over building materials and other pieces, giving the architecture a blueish hue and color palate.

These are just a few neat things to check out if you decide to visit Puerto Rico.
