No, this isn’t a joke, and that is the actual animal’s name.

This year over 10,000 of these creatures have perished in Lake Titicaca, and they were found floating in the Croata River. Lake Titicaca is located in South America in Peru, and the Croata River flows along the border of Bolivia and Peru.

Scrotum Frogs have been found floating in the river both on the side of both Peru and Bolivia. This frog genocide is becoming an epidemic when you consider that not many of these amphibians are left in existence.

This frog is solely found in Lake Titicaca or the surrounding bodies of water, which is why this frog has been nicknamed the Titicaca Water Frog. They look a little funny, but it is due to all of the adaptations that these frog has lived through. This amphibian can pull water out through their skin.

Scrotum Frogs Dying by the Thousands in Lake Titicaca

Some think that the Scrotum Frogs are dying because of pollution found in the area, and it seems like this is the case with 100 dead frogs floating to the shore. Thankfully, Peru’s National Forestry and Wildlife Service is looking into the matter and developing a plan to handle this pollution crisis.

The sulfide levels are incredibly high in the lake, which could be why the frogs are dying.

The Scrotum Frog isn’t the first case of an animal’s living environment being ignored and endangered animals suffering. If the government does not step in and become involved, there could be a future without the Scrotum Frog. Hopefully, this isn’t the case, and Peru will handle the pollution, preventing any future deaths of the beloved Scrotum Frog.
