September is the Teen Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Following the declaration of Arizona state governor, Doug Ducey, September is the teen suicide prevention awareness month, the New Foundation is stepping up to share what people can do to help in their own family, school, workplace, church, and community.

For middle and high school age youth (ages 12-18), suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death. Overall, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for our youth ages 10-24. (2013 CDC WISQARS).

The New Foundation encourages families, friends, and educators to be aware and listen to warning signs of a suicide attempt. For prevention efforts to work, our challenge is to share the warning signs list and encourage discussions about what to look for, and then listen.
