Send Me On Vacation Sent Breast Cancer Survivors Cruising in October

Send Me On Vacation Sent Survivors Cruising in October,  Breast Cancer Awareness Month, aboard Norwegian Caribbean Cruise Line.

Send Me On Vacation departed out of Boston for Bermuda with 10 breast cancer survivors anxious to be transformed into Mermaids. During the week each survivor was scheduled to attend an emotional healing workshop held by Rebecca Shaw CHT, a day of beauty with stylist/artist Tammy Albergo and a  photo shoot as a mermaid by Laura Riforgiato, capturing the inner and outer beauty of each SMOV recipient. It is a true celebration of each life after battling cancer and an incredibly empowering experience. Additionally, 25 supporters from across the US joined the voyage. Passengers flocked to watch the photos being taken both on the ship and following us to the pink sand beaches of  Bermuda. “They loved being part of the experience, watching us take photos of each survivor once transformed into a gorgeous Mermaid,” said Cathy Backus, the organizations Founder and President.

The organization’s hallmark program “A Mermaids Journey” offers each survivor an opportunity to discover the secrets of emotional healing, taking home an emotional toolbox to further their healing following the workshop. Jet Blue Volunteer, Wendy Blom worked tirelessly, earning the title Mermaid Wrangler. Tammy Albergo transformed each survivor  into a beautiful creature with her costumes designs, hair styling and make-up artistry.  A normal day included the transformation of 3-4 mermaids and photo shoots which starts at dawn and ends at sunset.

Once in Bermuda, SMOV offered all local cancer survivors the chance to attend one of two workshops held at the Bermuda Cancer & Health Center orchestrated by Azuree Williams, Event Coordinator. “It was an amazing success and we plan to return soon to host an event to raise funds in order to send many local survivors on “A Mermaids Journey” healing/empowerment  cruise in 2016.”  “This year SMOV cruises were aboard NCL and Carnival. SMOV hopes to form an affiliation with a major cruise line for 2016 to brand its hallmark program,” says Cathy Backus.
