Being the daughter of Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, and two-time presidential candidate, one could say that Sarah Huckabee Sanders was born to be in politics. Growing up in a political household, Sarah’s first paying job in politics was as a field director for Mike Huckabee’s 2002 gubernatorial reelection campaign which he won.
After finishing college at her father’s alma mater Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, she worked Under President George W. Bush in the Department of Education. Impressed with her loyalty and dedication she was then chosen to work on Bush’s reelection campaign in 2004. From there she staffed a couple of Senate campaigns before deciding to join her dad’s 2008 presidential campaign which was ultimately unsuccessful. However, Sarah had caught the eye of many prominent politicians and journalist due to her incredible worth ethic and dedication to each of her bosses. In 2010, Time magazine included her on their “40 under 40” list which was designed to introduce the up and coming stars of American politics.
In 2016, she spearheaded her father’s presidential campaign that began as a field of seventeen possible candidates. After her father decided to withdraw from the Republican 2016 primary race, Sanders, with the support of her father, chose to become a senior advisor to the Trump campaign. After a few months, she became a frequent spokesperson for then-candidate Trump, and after his inauguration in January of 2017, she became the principal deputy press secretary for President Trump. Press Secretary Sean Spicer often shared his press briefing responsibilities with Sanders during his tenure, so when he decided to leave the White House, she was the natural person in the position to take on the role as White House Press Secretary in July of 2017.
Since she has been working for the White House, the relationship between the most of the mainstream media outlets has been antagonistic at best. Channels like CNN, NBC, and CBS, have been labeled as “fake news” by many in the White House including both the President and Sanders herself. Still, almost every day she stands in front of the White House Press Corp with grace and elegance and answers their questions to the best of her ability. Even after being publicly shamed at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner did not deter her from her duties the following day. Being screamed at in public while trying to have a peaceful dinner with her family did not deter her from performing her duties the next day.
Sarah Huckabee Sanders is a shining example for all women who want to achieve success in their careers. The path may not always be easy, yet you can choose to overcome obstacles and still be successful. Whenever you think you are having a bad day at work, just take a moment and think about what she has to deal with every day. Take a deep breath, remember what you believe in and forge ahead with your strong convictions in your heart.
