Book Your Adventure Invites Members to Visit St. Croix Crucian Festival
Book Your Adventure is inviting its members to spend Christmas in a different way this year in St. Croix, Virgin Islands (nicknamed VI).
Traditions are kept and revered by many families but after awhile many people long to celebrate yuletide giving in a different way.
St. Croix is one of the beautiful Caribbean Islands that does often get the hoopla that some other islands enjoy.
France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Spain, Malta, are all influences seen on this island. The Crucian Christmas Festival was started in 1954 to celebrate the rich history and culture of the native people. It originally took place between Christmas Day and New Years but has since progressed to an entire month. This festival is a colorful spectacle with a carnival atmosphere. Many performances and culinary specialties are offered to the public from dawn to sunset. Locals present the traditions of their enslaved African ancestors who were allowed a day off to celebrate during slave times at plantations. Everyone dresses up in costume regalia. Many activities occur in nearby Frederiksted, but some also occur in St. Croix itself.
Other activities for Book Your Adventure members to enjoy include bands and musicians playing, royalty pageantry, cultural activities, and fairs showcasing art, culinary specialties, and drinks. J’ouvert is the Children’s Parade that always promises to be the highlight of the evening, followed by the Adult’s Parade.
Soca and Calypso band members play their instruments while dancing down the street. Steel bands line the parade route and dancers dressed in feathers with vibrant colors are all the rage.
A trip to St. Croix would not be the same without members shuttling over to Buck Island where you will find Turtle Beach, voted as one of the world’s best beaches by National Geographic. Professional Snorkeling Guides can transform the most timid swimmers to join with experienced swimmers to explore the Underground Trail. Here they will swim next to coral, crustacean, and angelfish.
For members of Book Your Adventure who prefer activities on land, they can try their hand at horseback riding on the beach, through the rainforest, or past slave ruins. Signing up for sunset rides will provide the most breathtaking of views. Whether an equestrian or a novice to riding, these riding tours are equipped to take care of all members skill levels.
One cannot leave St. Croix without tasting some of its culinary delights.
An example is an outdoor terrace of one restaurant that overlooks the beach serving fresh seafood, mutton stew, and curried goat. Another restaurant specializes in local favorite cuisine inspired by the West Indian and French culture. Members will discover food specialties for every taste bud, including Asian, Meditterean, Italian, Mexican and American, to name a few.
A visit to St. Croix would be shortchanged if Book Your Adventure members missed out on visiting one of the pristine beaches.
Rainbow Beach features live music and beach volleyball nets. Sandy Point is the longest beach that stretches three miles. It is part of the 380-acre Sandy Point Wildlife Preserve, home to the endangered species leatherback turtle. Pelican Cove Beach is a favorite of snorkelers and features a beachside restaurant with bar. These are just a few of many beaches to explore.
Whether Book Your Adventure members strictly enjoy the Crucian Christmas Festival or branch out to explore more of St. Croix, VI, there is no doubt this year will be a Christmas to remember.
